Let’s say up here we have some kind of introductory paragraph that explains what we are trying to do with this page. The general idea is that this is a document that can be continually updated and republished in a manner that highlight the latest updates. We might call it a workbook or notepad etc. The hope is that it gives us another tool to both internally keep track and externally signal to our readers that we are keeping track of various events without having to write up a whole article about each event. Examples use cases might include the purging of government departments, the backlash at congressional town halls, the antics of DOGE, etc.

Organized By Latest Updates:

[March 6, 2025] Trump’s purges are having a disproportionate impact on younger federal workers because they are more likely to be recent hires who enjoy fewer (but not none!) civil service protections:
  • CIA: The Central Intelligence Agency begins purging probationary employees.
  • VA: The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to cut more than 80,000 employees this year.
  • DoE: President Trump is expected to issue an executive order as soon as today purporting to unilaterally abolish the Education Department, the WSJ reports.
  • USDA: The Merit Service Protection Board ordered the temporary reinstatement of some 6,000 purged USDA workers.
[March 5, 2025] Fired government workers with top security clearances were not given the usual exit briefings after being terminated, Reuters reports.
  • IRS: The Trump administration is drafting plans to cut the 90,000-person IRS workforce by as much as half.
  • OPM: Under court order, the Office of Personnel Management rescinded its previous guidance on terminating probationary federal workers and emphasized that agencies not OPM have ultimate authority in personnel matters.
  • CDC: Dozens of purged CDC scientists were reinstated – at least for now.
  • Fired government workers with top security clearances were not given the usual exit briefings after being terminated, Reuters reports.
